Anaesthesia
The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is one of the largest and most academically productive anaesthesia departments in Hong Kong. It is affiliated with Prince of Wales Hospital, a tertiary acute trauma hospital under the Hospital Authority, which provides clinical services for a wide spectrum of operations.
Anaesthetic services are provided for 16 main operating theatres, 24-hour dedicated obstetric and acute pain services, and sessions in radiotherapy, radiology, endoscopy, psychiatry and acute and chronic pain medicine. There are 14,000 operations per year in the main Operating Theatre suite, with a third being emergency cases. An additional 2,000 anaesthetics are administered in the Labour Ward and other areas outside the Operating Theatre suite.
The department comprises of consultant anaesthetists who are excellent clinicians, teachers and mentors in their respective specialties, supplemented by a strong clinical and basic science research team. Since the establishment of the department, we have dedicated ourselves to the training of excellent anaesthetists through a comprehensive training program, as evidenced by the numerous awards and accolades received.
