Dr Henry Wong is a consultant anaesthetist with interests in cardiac anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. He obtained Master of Science in Health Service Management (MScHSM) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is about to complete the Master of Science in Perioperative Medicine (MScPOM) in University College of London.

He is the service lead for perioperative medicine and established a multidisciplinary perioperative service program comprising preoperative anaemia management, prehabilitation and CPET, with the aims to better risk stratify and optimize high-risk frail patients for major surgery.

One of his active research areas is on perioperative medicine in anaesthesia, especially on how to improve operative outcomes of cardiac surgical patients through perioperative measures, acute and chronic pain optimisation and fast-track cardiac anaesthesia. He is currently recruiting and assessing patients for iron deficiency before cardiac surgery, and treating them with intravenous iron therapy. He is also working with physiotherapists, dietitian and surgeons in recruiting frail cardiac surgical patients for prehabilitation, and application of regional techniques for fast-track cardiac anaesthesia. His latest research project is on application of methadone for acute and chronic pain management in cardiac surgery.

Dr Wong obtained Certificate for Medical Educator from the ANZCA Educator Program in 2018 and trained as a clinical simulation instructor for the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. He is currently the Chairman of the COC (Anaesthesiology) Training Subcommittee, the Training Officer of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologist, and the Coordinator for Internship Training Program. With his background in education and simulation, he is the instructor for a number of simulation-based training courses such as the WBA Train-the-trainer Workshop and the Crew Resource Management course.
