Dr. Vivian Lau

FHKCA FANZCA FHKAM Anaesthesiology

Vivian is an Associate Consultant at the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care in Prince of Wales Hospital, and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  She is an accredited cardiac anaesthetist and has obtained echo certification through the NBE Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography examination.  She is a key member of the perioperative medicine team and helped pilot the multidisciplinary prehabilitation program and the cardiopulmonary exercise testing service at her hospital. She is also actively involved in multidisciplinary perioperative guideline development.  She is an accredited cardiopulmonary exercise testing trainer from the Perioperative Exercise Testing and Training Society (POETTS) in UK.  

She is deputy program director of the Crew Resource Management training for her hospital cluster, and regularly runs clinical simulation courses to enhance patient safety.  She is also a seasoned instructor for the Debriefing Skills for Simulation Instructor Course at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) and Workplace-Based Assessment Workshop at the Hong Kong College of Anesthesiologists (HKCA).  Stemming from an interest in patient safety and medico-legal disputes, she is currently pursuing a LLM degree at the University of London, with a focus in Medical Law and Ethics. 

She is a keen advocate of young fellows’ well-being and professional development.  In 2022, she took on the role of chairperson of the Young Fellows Committee of the HKCA with a commitment to enhance young fellows’ connectivity and engagement in college affairs.
