Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have passed all certification examinations required for the specialty of anaesthesia in their own country, and preference are given to those who are a registered specialist within their own country, although provisional fellows are also considered. Preference will also be given to applicants who 1) are within 5 years of completing their training 2) demonstrate a keen interest in their chosen fellowship areas and 3) have recognised medical qualifications by the medical council of Hong Kong (https://www.mchk.org.hk/english/registration/recognised_medical_qualifications.html).
You will be asked to provide your CV, cover letter, 1 reference letter and contacts of 2 referees as part of the application.

Employment and Salary

Fellows are to be employed by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, for a duration for 6 to 24 months.
Salaries will depend on service provision, including on-call duties, as well as level of experience — ranging from 60,000 to 120,000 HKD per month. Contract details will be discussed after successful application for fellowship program.

Our On Call System

Fellows will be rostered to 4-5 calls per month, with each call shift lasting 16 hours on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and public holidays. During each call, there will be an on-site resident covering the main operation theatre, an on-site resident covering obstetrics service, both under the supervision of an on-site specialist.

Working Arrangements

Apart from on call duties, fellows will be assigned to our weekly roster on other working days, covering elective and emergency surgeries. Fellows will primarily work in their corresponding subspecialties, but they may also be rostered to some of the many other subspecialties available at our hospital, depending on interests and list arrangements. Anaesthetic duty starts at 8am in the mornings and runs until the list ends in the evenings.

Living Arrangements

There are various private housing options in the vicinity of the hospital. Rentals usually vary between $10,000 to $30,000/ month.

Transportation

Prince of Wales Hospital is conveniently located 5 minutes away from the City One MTR station. It is also easily accessible via multiple bus routes.

Language

Both English and Cantonese are widely used in Hong Kong, with English being the primary medium of language among doctors. Hospital translators are also readily available for communication with patients in case language difficulties occur.

Visa and Registrations

Our Department will fully assist candidates in the application process for limited registration and employment visa.  To allow adequate time to process the visa and other documents, please submit your application about one year in advance.
