Dr. Xavier Sala-Blanch is a prominent figure in the field of anesthesiology. He serves as a Senior Doctor and Head of Section in the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation at Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. Additionally, he is an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the University of Barcelona .
Dr. Sala-Blanch has been instrumental in advancing the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in anesthesiology, particularly for regional anesthesia. His interest in ultrasound technology began in the late 1990s, and he has since played a key role in developing ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques in Spain. He also contributes to education through a Master’s degree course in ‘Advanced Medical Competencies for Regional Anesthesia Based on Anatomy’ at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
