  • opioid effects
  • inhibits cardiac membrane sodium conduction
  • onset of clinical features is rapid

Clinical features

CVS

  • QRS or QT prolongation
  • ventricular dysrhythmias
  • conduction defects
  • hypotension

RS

  • respiratory depression

GI

  • nausea, vomiting, anorexia
  • abdominal pain
  • constipation

CNS

  • drowsiness, coma
  • confusion, hallucinations
  • seizures
  • miosis

Endocrine

  • nephrogenic DI (rare)

Treatment

Benzodiazepines for seizures resistant to naloxone
