Figure 5a SIMV with pressure support. If the patient triggers the ventilator during the SIMV period the ventilator delivers a preset breath and counts this breath as one of the SIMV breaths. If the patient triggers the ventilator outside the SIMV period the ventilator delivers a pressure support breath
Figure 5b. SIMV with pressure support If the patient does not trigger the ventilator in the SIMV period the ventilator delivers a preset breath at the end of the SIMV period
