Heparin

Animal data suggest that heparin has a number of effects in addition to its anti-coagulation effects:

  • enhancement of endothelial stability
  • anti-inflammatory effects
  • bacteriostatic effects

In this respect low molecular weight heparin and unfractionated heparin are similar
